Waisea Nayacalevu, captain of the Flying Fijians for the 2023 Rugby World Cup, has expressed frustration over the lack of communication from the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) amid ongoing allegations of mismanagement within the organization. With concerns surfacing more than a week ago, Nayacalevu reported that senior players have not received any updates from the FRU, despite their attempts to engage.
In a live podcast with social media blogger Lesi Vanuavou, Nayacalevu revealed his efforts to reach out to FRU Trust Board Chairman Peter Mazey. He mentioned that Mazey initially agreed to a meeting between senior players and the FRU, but then became unavailable at the last moment, leaving players without further contact.
“We need to talk and iron out the issues,” Nayacalevu emphasized, stating that it is crucial for the organization to address accountability and bring about necessary changes. He also noted that emails regarding outstanding salaries for matches played against the Barbarians, Georgia, and the All Blacks earlier this year have been sent to the FRU, but no response has been received.
