Waisea Nayacalevu, the captain of the Flying Fijians for the 2023 Rugby World Cup, has expressed that the team has not received any communication from the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU). This follows a recent situation involving allegations of mismanagement within the FRU that arose over a week ago. Nayacalevu mentioned that despite their attempts to reach out, there has been no response.
In a live podcast with social media influencer Lesi Vanuavou, Nayacalevu revealed that he had contacted Peter Mazey, the Chairman of the Fiji Rugby Union Trust Board. Mazey initially agreed to an arrangement for a meeting between senior players and the FRU but later became unavailable just before the scheduled discussion.
“Since then, no one else has reached out to us,” Nayacalevu stated. He emphasized the importance of addressing the ongoing issues, saying, “We need to talk and iron out the issues. It is time for a clean up and especially accountability.”
Additionally, Nayacalevu mentioned that emails have been sent to the FRU concerning outstanding salaries for matches played this year against the Barbarians, Georgia, and the All Blacks.
