The November Test matches represent a crucial step for the Fiji Water Flying Fijians as they prepare for the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia. This was highlighted by head coach Mick Byrne in an interview prior to the team’s departure yesterday.
Byrne acknowledged that the current squad includes several seasoned players nearing the end of their careers. “Some of them have played in three World Cups, and their legacy should be respected,” he noted. He emphasized that now is the perfect opportunity to integrate new talent as part of their strategy for the 2027 World Cup.
After concluding the Pacific Nations Cup (PNC) on a positive note, Byrne expressed his desire to end the year successfully. The international program consists of four Test matches, three of which are against teams from the Six Nations: Scotland, Wales, and Ireland.
The coach remarked that the players based in Europe performed well over the weekend, while those in Fiji, particularly members of the Fijian Drua squad, have been actively engaged in their offseason training.
The Flying Fijians will kick off their tour with a Test match against Scotland at Murrayfield on November 3. This will be followed by a match against Wales in Cardiff on November 10, a Test against Spain on November 17, and the final match against Ireland in Dublin on November 24.
In other news, Scotland Rugby has announced that tickets for the Scotland-Fiji Test match have sold out.
