Flying Fijians head coach Mick Byrne is set to present an evaluation of the team’s recent performances to the Fiji Rugby Union board this week. FRU CEO Rovereto Nayacalevu mentioned in an interview that it is standard procedure for the board to assess all aspects of performance following each campaign.
Byrne has just returned from Australia and will discuss the outcomes of the recent tour with the board. When questioned about the board’s satisfaction with the team’s performance, Nayacalevu acknowledged that while the match against the All Blacks did not end as desired, the victory over Georgia and the subsequent improvement in the team’s world ranking serve as positive points to build on moving forward.
Nayacalevu also raised concerns regarding the limited access to players, noting that the Barbarians match in Twickenham occurred during the Super Rugby season and outside the World Rugby access window. He emphasized that these limitations are significant issues to address.
He confirmed that all team staff, including Byrne, have established key performance indicators (KPIs) as part of their job descriptions. Any directives will be provided following the review process after Coach Mick returns to the island. Additionally, Nayacalevu announced that Flying Fijians manager Eleina McDonald has submitted her resignation following the recent tour.
