A flash flood warning has been issued for low-lying and flood-prone areas in Fiji, including small streams. The Nadi weather office is urging residents to remain vigilant for high tide expected around 3:00 PM today. Recent flooding in Nadi occurred during the same high tide period yesterday.
In the last 24 hours, significant rainfall was recorded in various locations: Nadarivatu received 186.5mm, Momi 96.5mm, Sigatoka 76.0mm, Vatukacevaceva 74.0mm, Bukayo 69.5mm, Rarawai 62.0mm, Double-u 60.5mm, and Yahara 56.0mm. Fortunately, the Fiji Roads Authority has reported that Queens Road through Nadi Town is now passable for all vehicles, with floodwaters having receded enough to allow safe passage. However, motorists are cautioned to drive carefully as some road sections may still be wet and slippery.
A heavy rain warning is still in effect for the entire Fiji group, as an active low-pressure system continues to bring clouds and rain to the region.
In summary, while the situation remains serious with ongoing weather warnings, the receding floodwaters and reopening of main roads offer a glimmer of progress. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and safe during this challenging weather period. It’s an opportunity for the community to come together and support one another as they navigate through these tough conditions.
