Flame Tree Waimanu 7s: A Thrilling Kickoff in Naitasiri

Flame Tree Waimanu Green emerged victorious in the first leg of the Flame Tree Waimanu 7s tournament, defeating Vunimono Eels 15-12 at the Sawani Primary School ground in Naitasiri on Saturday afternoon.

The match was a fierce contest that captivated spectators from the local community, showcasing the determination of both teams. The tournament was marked by excellent weather and an exciting atmosphere throughout the day.

Games director Jone Turaganiqali noted that out of 16 men’s teams, 13 were from the Naitasiri region, while three represented areas beyond it. He commended the participation of three women’s teams: the Sinukakala Amazons from Nasinu, the Seahawks, and the Capital Insurance Nuku team, all of which demonstrated remarkable rugby talent.

Turaganiqali highlighted the potential of many young players and expressed a desire for selectors from the Fiji Rugby Union to scout talent from the tournament. He extended his gratitude to the tournament sponsor, Flame Tree Development Fiji Limited, for their support and commitment to the community.

Following the success of this event, there are plans to host next year’s tournament at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, as confirmed by Turaganiqali. The next leg of the three-part series is scheduled for November 9.
