Oceania Rugby has launched its inaugural Match Official High-Performance Camp in Nadi, in partnership with World Rugby and with support from the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade through the PacificAus Sports program. This initiative aims to improve officiating standards and enhance the skills of officials throughout the Oceania region.
Richard Sapias, the President of Oceania Rugby, remarked that launching the camp in Fiji highlights their commitment to developing match officials and striving for excellence in the sport.
The camp includes a range of intensive training sessions, workshops, and discussions led by experienced referees and educators from World Rugby. It provides match officials with a valuable opportunity to refine their skills, stay updated on the latest officiating practices, and foster connections within the rugby community.
Frank Puletua, the General Manager of Oceania Rugby, stressed the importance of the camp in enhancing the skills of local officials. He stated, “We are taking significant steps to develop and upskill our officials, pushing towards higher standards and competencies.”
