The National Fire Authority has reported an incident involving one of its fire trucks that overturned while responding to an emergency call near Koro Village in Nadarivatu. Puamau Sowane, the Chief Executive Officer, stated that all personnel from the Tavua Fire Station on board sustained only minor injuries, attributing the accident to mechanical failure.
Sowane emphasized the importance of responding to all emergency calls, stating, “We are duty-bound to attend to all emergencies, regardless of location.” He noted that emergencies do not recognize boundaries, and neither do the firefighters in their commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
He added that the fire trucks are not ideally suited for rough terrains like the interior of Nadarivatu due to the heavy loads and equipment they carry. “This incident highlights the unpredictable nature of our work and demonstrates the extraordinary efforts our firefighters make to serve the people of Fiji,” he remarked.
Sowane assured the public that a thorough investigation into the incident will take place.
