Fire Devastation: 22 Displaced in Nasinu Blaze

A fire on Sele Road in Caubati, Nasinu, has left 22 individuals homeless after two wooden houses were engulfed in flames on Tuesday, September 3. The National Fire Authority received an emergency call at 9:59 AM, prompting a swift response from crews at the Valelevu, Suva, and Nakasi Fire Stations.

By 11:12 AM, the fire was reported to be under control, yet it had inflicted over 95% structural damage to both residences. One house was home to 17 people, while the other accommodated five.

An investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of the fire. Puamau Sowane, Chief Executive Officer of the National Fire Authority, emphasized the necessity of fire safety measures, urging homeowners to utilize appropriate building materials and to engage licensed electricians to mitigate the risk of electrical faults, which are a primary factor in residential fires.
