Fire Destroys Homes: 22 Left Displaced in Nasinu Blaze

A fire in Sele Road, Caubati, Nasinu on Tuesday, September 3rd, has left twenty-two individuals homeless after two wooden houses were destroyed. The National Fire Authority received the emergency alert at 9:59 AM, and teams from Valelevu Fire Station, Suva Fire Station, and Nakasi Fire Station quickly responded to the scene.

The fire was reported to be under control by 11:12 AM and resulted in over 95% structural damage to both residences. One house was home to 17 people, while the other housed 5.

Authorities will conduct an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. Puamau Sowane, Chief Executive Officer of the National Fire Authority, stressed the importance of fire safety, urging homeowners to use appropriate building materials and to engage licensed electricians to help prevent electrical faults, which are a major cause of home fires.
