The Fiji Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) is required to deliver a final report to the President, summarizing its activities, public feedback, and suggestions for state action. This requirement is outlined in the Fiji Truth and Reconciliation Commission Bill, which was introduced in Parliament last Friday.
According to the Bill, the final report must be submitted within three months after the commission’s operational period ends, or sooner if the commission’s term is extended. The legislation also mandates that a copy of the report be shared with the state to facilitate the implementation of its recommendations.
Furthermore, the Bill stipulates that the state should take reasonable steps to implement these recommendations, given the resources at its disposal. If the state asserts that it lacks the necessary resources, it is obligated to demonstrate that these resources are indeed unavailable.
The commission will be automatically dissolved once the final report is presented to the President.
