Christopher Wasasala, who successfully scored the winning penalty for Labasa in the 2024 FMF Inter District Championship (IDC) final against Navua, expressed his confidence ahead of the crucial moment. The 29-year-old military member remarked that while he did not expect the match to go to penalties, he eagerly volunteered to take the last kick.
After previously missing a penalty in the semifinal, Wasasala was determined to redeem himself, stating he wanted to prove his critics wrong. He infused his teammates with confidence, assuring them of his ability to clinch the title for Labasa.
When it was time for the decisive kick, Wasasala took a moment to pray and seek guidance before confidently executing the shot. Reflecting on the experience, he described the moment when the ball hit the net as a magical highlight of his career with the Labasa team.
Looking ahead, Wasasala confirmed his commitment to continue with the Babasiga Lions next season, expressing his desire to mentor the upcoming strikers in the team. He also plans to focus on the upcoming Sukuna Bowl challenge next month in Suva, where he will represent the RFMF soccer team against the Fiji Police Force.
