The Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran, recently honored the late Semi Bukarau, a senior welfare officer from her ministry, who passed away last week following a brief illness. Ms. Kiran led a delegation to escort Mr. Bukarau on his final journey home, reflecting on his substantial contributions to the welfare sector.
“It is a heartbreaking farewell for an officer who dedicated his life to serving our communities. Mr. Bukarau’s impact on the welfare sector was remarkable, and we are deeply grateful for his unwavering commitment. His loss is felt widely across the communities he supported,” stated Ms. Kiran.
Mr. Bukarau, who was 47 years old, had a lengthy career in the Fiji Civil Service spanning 27 years, with 24 of those years dedicated to serving as a welfare officer within the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection. The minister’s delegation included notable figures such as Permanent Secretary Eseta Nadakuitavuki, Commissioner Central Josefa Navuku, and other ministry staff members.
This tribute highlights the profound impact that dedicated public servants have on their communities, underscoring the importance of recognizing and honoring those who devote their lives to bettering the lives of others. Mr. Bukarau’s legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire future generations of welfare officers to serve with the same passion and commitment.
