Fiji’s Young Weightlifting Star Shines at Commonwealth Championships

Mereia Turaganivalu of Team Fiji has clinched a bronze medal in the Women’s 59kg Youth division at the 2024 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships held at Vodafone Arena in Suva. The 14-year-old student from Gospel High School successfully lifted 53kg in the snatch and 70kg in the clean and jerk, achieving a total of 123kg. Turaganivalu expressed that she finds motivation in her mother and aunt, both of whom were former weightlifters, and feels honored to continue the family tradition.
