Rayna Chand’s hard work and commitment to her studies have culminated in a remarkable achievement: she has secured the highest score in the Fiji Eighth Year Examination for the Northern Division. At only 13 years old, Rayna, the head girl of Wainikoro Public School in Macuata, achieved an impressive total of 485 marks out of 500, marking a significant milestone for her school.
Her outstanding performance across various subjects includes scores of 97 in English, 94 in Mathematics, a perfect 100 in Basic Science, 97 in Healthy Living, 97 in Social Science, and 88 in Hindi. Unsurprisingly, this is the first time Wainikoro Public School has attained such an accolade, and the entire school community is celebrating this success.
Rayna expressed her gratitude to her family, including her father, an electrician in Suva, and her mother, who works at the school as administrative staff. She shared how her parents’ efforts have motivated her to excel in her studies. Rising early at 4 am and studying late at night, she has consistently been at the top of her class since Year One. Her determination shines through as she states, “Like other students, I also struggled, but I never used it as an excuse to achieve my goal.”
Her proud mother, Shareeni Lal, announced plans to send Rayna to Labasa College for her further education, indicating that this achievement is just the beginning of her academic journey. The head teacher of Wainikoro Public School, Rajesh Kumar, acknowledged the collective effort behind this success, praising the support from the Ministry of Education and the dedication of the school’s staff.
This achievement not only highlights Rayna’s individual effort but also serves as an inspiration to students and schools across the region, showcasing the potential for excellence within local education systems.
Overall, Rayna Chand’s story is a testament to the power of perseverance, familial support, and the pursuit of knowledge—qualities that will undoubtedly guide her on her path towards becoming a doctor, as she aspires to do.
