Rayna Chand’s unwavering commitment to her studies has led her to achieve remarkable success in the Fiji Eighth Year Examination for the Northern Division, earning the highest score of 485 out of 500. The 13-year-old head girl at Wainikoro Public School in Macuata has made history by securing this prestigious accomplishment for her school for the first time.
Rayna’s impressive scores include 97 in English, 94 in Mathematics, a perfect 100 in Basic Science, 97 in Healthy Living, 97 in Social Science, and 88 in Hindi. She expressed gratitude to her parents, teachers, and head teacher for their support throughout her academic journey.
Proud of her achievement, Rayna, who hails from Taganikula, commented, “I feel proud to be the first student at my school to score the highest marks in Vanua Levu.” Her motivation stems from a desire to honor her parents, particularly noting the dedication of her father, an electrician in Suva, and her mother, an administrative staff member at the school.
Rayna revealed that her success was the result of hard work, including late-night study sessions and early morning revisions starting at 4 a.m. Aspiring to become a doctor, she acknowledged the challenges she faced but emphasized that she never used them as an excuse to achieve her academic goals.
Her mother, Shareeni Lal, expressed immense pride in her daughter and shared plans to send her to Labasa College for further studies. Wainikoro Public School’s head teacher, Rajesh Kumar, acknowledged the entire school’s pride in Rayna’s achievement and thanked the Ministry of Education for their guidance and support.
“This is the first time we received the highest mark in the North, and the school management and I are incredibly proud,” Mr. Kumar stated, noting that Rayna was also the school dux this year.
