Shiri Guru Nanak Khalsa Primary School has made history by winning the Fiji Mathematics Competition (FMC) for Year Eight for the first time this year.
The winning team, made up of students Danish Prasad, Aarav Chand, Taniska Lal, and Ishita Lata, tackled 20 questions in just 31 minutes during the event held at the Latter-Day Saints Church in Tamavua, Suva, last Saturday.
Team leader Taniska, who is also the school head girl, expressed confidence in their victory after previously winning the Year Eight category in the Northern Zone competition.
“We dedicated up to four weeks for preparation, with support from our teachers, Kamlesh Karan and Ashweeni Dutt,” said Ms. Lal.
With 14 schools from across Fiji participating, achieving the top prize is a significant accomplishment for the team.
School head teacher Rajesh Kumar acknowledged the efforts of the school manager, parents, teachers, and the families of the students for collaborating to raise funds that allowed them to travel to Suva for the competition.
“This marks the first time Year Eight students have reached such a high level, and bringing home the top trophy is a true blessing,” Mr. Kumar remarked.
He highlighted the school’s commitment to holistic development and noted that competitions like this inspire other students to discover their strengths and excel academically.
