Fiji’s Young Golf Stars Gear Up for Asia Pacific Championship

Shakeel Pillay and Rajat Rai will represent Fiji at the Asia Pacific Amateur Golf Championship, which is scheduled to take place in Japan from October 3 to 6.

Nineteen-year-old Pillay is set to make his debut in the championship. This year, he was the runner-up at the Western Amateur Championship and secured seventh place in the Fiji Golf Classic. He also represented Fiji at the Pacific Mini Games in the Northern Mariana Islands in 2022 and won the Nadi Open in 2021.

Seventeen-year-old Rai will also be participating in the championship for the first time.

Amitesh Chandra, president of Golf Fiji, expressed pride in sending two players to this prestigious event after a three-year absence.

“Golf Fiji is confident that the two players will do Golf Fiji proud at the event, and it is after three years that we have been able to send two players to this event,” Chandra stated.
