The Fiji Under 15 Basketball team had the honor of presenting their iTautau to President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere at the State House on November 6. During the meeting, the President praised the young athletes for representing Fiji on an international platform, recognizing the significance of their competition.
He expressed pride in the team’s accomplishments and acknowledged the growing global influence of basketball, noting that some of Fiji’s youth have successfully moved to the United States to pursue their basketball dreams. As the team prepares to participate in the upcoming championships in Australia, the President encouraged them to draw on the training and support they have received from their coaches and especially from their parents.
President Katonivere reminded the players that they serve as ambassadors for Fiji, emphasizing that their efforts extend beyond basketball and contribute to the country’s positive representation in sports overall. He urged them to balance their sporting ambitions with their educational responsibilities, encouraging them to pursue excellence both on the court and in their studies.
“This is a remarkable opportunity for you to showcase your talent, so remember to play with passion and always play for Fiji,” he said, instilling hope and pride as they embark on this journey.
The message from the President is a powerful reminder of the impact youth sports can have, not just on individual development but also on national pride. As these young athletes gear up to compete, their presence on the international stage serves as an inspiration for other aspiring sportspeople in Fiji.
