Fiji’s Yeshnil Karan Shatters National Record in Gold Coast Marathon

Fiji’s golden boy, Yeshnil Karan, set a new national record in the Gold Coast Half Marathon yesterday. The Tavua native clocked in at 67 minutes and 14 seconds, improving his personal best by 25 seconds.

“I’m particularly thrilled with my first 10km split time of 30 minutes and 47 seconds,” Karan said.

He noted that the race was tough and challenging, with cold, windy, and rainy conditions, along with some short climbs. Despite these obstacles, he kept reminding himself to stay strong and positive.

“A huge thank you to all the supporters along the route who cheered ‘Go Fiji Go!’ and ‘Bula’—your encouragement motivated and inspired me to push harder to improve my performance against elite runners,” he said.

Karan also expressed his gratitude to Athletics Fiji, Oceania Athletics, his training partners and coaches in Gold Coast and Brisbane, as well as all benefactors and well-wishers. “Your support has been invaluable,” he added.
