A slow-moving trough of low pressure is currently lingering over the Fiji Group, bringing clouds and heavy rainfall. According to reports from the Fiji Meteorological Service on Friday, this trough is gradually shifting eastward.
Showers are expected to impact various regions, including Suva, Nausori, and Tailevu, as well as Sigatoka, the Coral Coast, the interior Ra-Rakiraki, Naitasiri, Serua, Namosi, Lau, and the Lomaiviti Group. In addition to the rain, cloudy periods with some showers are anticipated across other areas, accompanied by possible thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening, which may bring localized heavy rainfall.
Residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas should be particularly cautious, as localized heavy falls could potentially lead to flash flooding.
Looking ahead to Sunday, the forecast predicts continued cloudy periods with some showers over the greater Suva-Nausori-Tailevu regions, the interior of Ra-Rakiraki, Naitasiri, Serua-Namosi area, and parts of southern Bua and Cakaudrove, as well as Lau and Lomaiviti groups. Meanwhile, other areas may experience fine weather, with only isolated afternoon or evening showers expected.
This weather event highlights the importance of remaining vigilant during heavy rainfall periods. While such conditions can be challenging, they also serve to replenish water supplies and nourish the vibrant ecosystems in Fiji.
In summary, residents are advised to prepare for ongoing rain and possible flash flooding, while also recognizing the long-term benefits this rainfall can bring to the environment and water resources.
