The Water Authority of Fiji has urged customers in Suva and Nausori to begin storing water in preparation for a temporary supply shutdown due to maintenance work scheduled for this weekend.
According to an announcement on social media, the water supply will be interrupted from Friday, October 4, 2024, to Sunday, October 6, 2024, as essential maintenance tasks are executed. The authority indicated that additional risks identified at the worksite necessitated immediate action to ensure worker safety before any maintenance could commence.
In light of this situation, WAF has recommended that customers store sufficient water to last throughout the planned disruption. The maintenance work aims to facilitate connection upgrades to the new DN900mm Gravity Main from the Waitolu Reservoir to the existing DN600mm DICL Rising Main from the Waila Water Treatment Plant, which supplies the Wainibuku Reservoir.
Areas that will be affected include those reliant on the Wainibuku Reservoir and its dependent reservoirs, such as the Tovata, Nagatugatu, Tacirua, Dokanaisuva, Coloisuva, Kalabu, Nasinu, and Flagstaff Reservoirs.
Customers are advised to prepare in advance and ensure they have enough water stored for use during this time.
The affected regions have been specified in detail, highlighting various neighborhoods and streets throughout Suva and Nausori. WAF has also noted that water carting services will be available in response to any difficulties arising from this maintenance work.
WAF apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciates the understanding and patience of its customers. For further inquiries, customers can reach out via phone, the WAF Mobile App, or email.
