Fiji’s Water Supply Restoration: What You Need to Know!

The Water Authority of Fiji has announced that water restoration efforts are in progress following the successful completion of planned works at Waila, which involved connecting the Viria Water Supply to the Waila Water Treatment Plant system.

In a statement, WAF Chief Operating Officer Seru Soderberg indicated that as of yesterday, the WAF teams were engaged in flushing and bleeding the system and had charged the pipeline linking the Waila Water Treatment Plant to the Wainibuku Reservoir.

Soderberg reported that water flow to the Wainibuku Reservoir was restored around 3 PM yesterday, and the focus now is to refill the reservoirs to their operational levels. He mentioned that restoration efforts to normalize water supply started at midnight and are expected to reach 90 percent in the affected areas.

He expressed gratitude to the community for their patience and for following advice to store water over the weekend.

Additionally, the Minister for Public Works, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, visited the work site and recognized the efforts of the teams involved in these crucial operations, which took approximately 20 hours to enhance the resilience, redundancy, and reliability of the Suva-Nausori Water Distribution Network. Water carting trucks are on standby for assistance if necessary.
