Fiji’s Water Supply: Major Restoration Works Underway!

The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) has announced that water restoration efforts are in progress following the successful completion of planned water works at Waila, where the Viria Water Supply was connected to the Waila Water Treatment Plant system.

WAF Chief Operating Officer Seru Soderberg stated that as of yesterday, teams were engaged in flushing and bleeding operations and had successfully charged the pipeline from the Waila Water Treatment Plant to the Wainibuku Reservoir. He noted that water flow to the Wainibuku Reservoir was normalized around 3 p.m. yesterday, with plans to focus on refilling reservoirs to appropriate operating levels.

Restoration efforts began at midnight and are expected to achieve a 90 percent restoration of water supply to affected areas. Soderberg expressed gratitude to the community for their patience and cooperation, particularly for following advice to store water over the weekend.

Additionally, the Minister for Public Works, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, visited the site to acknowledge the efforts of the teams involved. He emphasized that the work is crucial, taking approximately 20 hours to enhance the resilience, redundancy, and reliability of the Suva-Nausori Water Distribution Network. Water carting trucks are also available to provide support as needed.
