Fiji’s Water Supply Faces Weekend Shutdown: Are You Prepared?

The Water Authority of Fiji is urging residents in Suva and Nausori to prepare for a water supply shutdown this weekend due to maintenance work. The scheduled interruption will take place from Friday, October 4, 2024, to Sunday, October 6, 2024.

In a social media alert, the WAF explained that the work is essential for the connection of a new DN900mm Gravity Main from the Waitolu Reservoir to the existing DN600mm DICL Rising Main from the Waila Water Treatment Plant, which supplies the Wainibuku Reservoir.

WAF noted that assessments at the worksite identified additional risks, which must be addressed to ensure worker safety. Consequently, residents are encouraged to stockpile sufficient water for the duration of the shutdown.

Areas affected by the water supply disruption include those serviced by the Wainibuku Reservoir and several dependent reservoirs, such as Tovata, Nagatugatu, Tacirua, and Kalabu among others. A detailed list of impacted neighborhoods and roads has been provided by WAF.

Water carting services will be available to assist with any supply disruptions during the maintenance period. The authority apologizes for any inconvenience caused and appreciates customers’ understanding.

For further inquiries, residents can contact WAF at (679) 3346777, or email contact@waf.com.fj.
