Fiji’s Water Supply Faces Weekend Disruption: What’s Causing the Outage?

The Water Authority of Fiji is actively addressing the water supply disruption that some customers have encountered while receiving water from the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant this weekend.

On Friday, the plant experienced elevated turbidity levels in the Waimanu River attributed to recent rainfall in the area. The Water Authority reported that these high turbidity levels resulted in increased sludge accumulation at the plant, which subsequently affected the gearbox of one of the two clarifiers.

As a result of this breakdown, the restoration of water production to normal levels has been delayed, impacting those reliant on the supply.

“Our technical team is working diligently around the clock to resolve this issue and restore service as quickly as possible. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, particularly for those who have been without water since yesterday,” a spokesperson stated.

WAF Chief Operating Officer Seru Soderberg expressed gratitude to the community for their ongoing understanding and patience as efforts continue to resolve the situation.
