Fiji’s Water Supply Crisis: What You Need to Know

The Water Authority of Fiji is actively addressing a water supply issue affecting some customers serviced by the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant. The problem arose over the weekend due to increased turbidity levels in the Waimanu River, a result of recent rainfall in the area.

The authority reported that the elevated turbidity led to a buildup of sludge at the treatment facility, which ultimately caused a malfunction in the gearbox of one of the treatment plant’s two clarifiers. This mechanical failure has hindered the restoration of normal water production and affected supply for those impacted.

“Our technical team is dedicatedly working around the clock to resolve this issue and restore water supply as soon as possible. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused, especially to those who have been without water since yesterday,” a spokesperson stated.

WAF Chief Operating Officer Seru Soderberg expressed gratitude to the community for their ongoing understanding and patience during this challenging situation.
