Fiji’s Water Chief Honored at Global Water Event

Dr. Amit Chanan, Chief Executive Officer of the Water Authority of Fiji, has been honored as an IWA Fellow by the International Water Association during the IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition held in Toronto, Canada.

Ratu Savenaca Seniloli, Chairman of the WAF Board, extended his congratulations to Dr. Chanan for this significant accomplishment. He stated, “This is a remarkable and impressive achievement for the Water Authority of Fiji and its CEO. WAF and Fiji are delighted to have a leader of his caliber who continuously strives for greater heights, all aimed at ensuring that the people of Fiji have proper water and sanitation services.”

The recognition as an IWA Fellow is a prestigious honor given to individuals by the Association. IWA Fellows comprise a distinguished group of global water professionals recognized for their expertise and leadership in water science, technology, and management as the field progresses.

Graham Dooley, a WAF Board Director and former President of the Australian Water Association, also congratulated Dr. Chanan on this achievement. He remarked, “Over the past couple of decades, Dr. Chanan has made significant contributions to the water industry in Australia, Fiji, and throughout the Pacific. This well-deserved recognition highlights his outstanding work in advancing the water sector.”

Being part of the IWA Fellows Community not only acknowledges the contributions of individuals to the water profession but also fosters leadership and mentorship within a diverse community that integrates scientific advancements, technological innovations, and creative ideas from different IWA groups.

The recognition is based on a peer review of past contributions to the water sector and the IWA, as well as the nominee’s commitment to ongoing professional contributions via active participation in IWA initiatives at international, regional, and national levels.
