Fiji’s Vision: A Partnership for Progress with the World Bank

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Professor Biman Prasad held a meeting today with Manuella Ferro, the World Bank Vice President for the East Asia and Pacific region, on the sidelines of the 2024 IMF/World Bank Group Annual Meetings.

The discussions centered around crucial government priorities outlined in the National Development Plan, such as enhancing health service delivery, promoting quality education, constructing climate-resilient infrastructure, and improving the overall standard of living.

VP Ferro expressed the Bank’s commitment to collaborating with the Government of Australia and the Asian Development Bank to advance the redevelopment of the CWM Hospital. Additionally, emphasis will be placed on addressing the ongoing public health emergency by increasing investments in primary health care facilities nationwide and enhancing public awareness and response strategies.

VP Ferro praised Fiji for its innovative approach and reaffirmed the World Bank’s ongoing support through technical assistance, financing, and capacity-building initiatives to address these priorities. She assured Professor Prasad of the Bank’s commitment to the National Development Plan and its continued partnership in Fiji’s development efforts.
