The National Development Plan (NDP) for 2025-2029 and Vision 2050 has been officially introduced as a key policy framework to guide the allocation of government resources for the next five years, setting a robust foundation for Fiji’s development over the next 25 years.
The unveiling took place at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva. Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica highlighted that the NDP embodies a new political mandate focused on enhancing the welfare of the population, promoting inclusivity, and encouraging sustainable development.
The plan is built on three core pillars: economic resilience, people empowerment, and good governance. Kamikamica emphasized that the NDP will serve as a catalyst for transformative changes, leading to improved economic growth and opportunities.
He stated, “I cannot overstate the importance of collective action in the successful implementation of this Plan. It is through our united efforts that we will drive sustainable development forward and realize the prosperous Fiji we aspire to achieve. Together, let us commit to building a more sustainable and resilient future for generations to come.”
The Deputy Prime Minister further emphasized that the new Plan prioritizes the needs and aspirations of the people, ensuring equitable and inclusive development. He remarked, “Any development plan that does not place its people at the forefront is both futile and impractical.”
Professor Biman Prasad, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, described the NDP as a forward-looking vision that is comprehensive, strategic, and achievable. He noted that over 21,000 individuals were consulted, including representatives from civil society, industry groups, security forces, academia, students, and faith-based organizations, to gather insights and understand the public’s concerns.
Prasad pointed out that the NDP comes at a critical juncture, designed to address urgent global, regional, and national challenges that influence Fiji’s future. He emphasized that the Plan presents an opportunity for Fiji to pave its way toward becoming a resilient, sustainable, and highly inclusive nation.
