Upcycling entrepreneur Tikosaya Ledua is determined to establish Fiji’s first upcycling hub, a significant move that could impact the region. Ledua recently received the Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year Award at the 2023 FDB National SME Awards in Suva, highlighting the growth of her business.
As the founder of Ledua’s Arts Collection, she specializes in creating art and household items from recycled materials. Ledua views her recent accolade as a stepping stone and is eager to further her plans for an upcycling hub aimed at increasing women’s involvement and education in this field.
She credits her success to divine guidance, the valuable MSME training and workshops, her company’s unique branding and consistent quality in production and digital marketing, as well as the support of her husband, who plays a crucial role in bringing her designs to fruition.
“There is a huge market for upcycling that remains untapped. This presents a great opportunity for us as we delve into upcycling and related sectors. There is so much work ahead,” Ledua commented.
She also expressed gratitude for the partnership with the Ministry of Women, which aims to connect government initiatives with community projects for rural women. Additionally, she is part of the Fiji Enterprise Engine in Suva, an accelerator program designed to help MSMEs expand their business acumen. Ledua encourages women and female-owned businesses to persist in pursuing their dreams despite challenges.
“If you’re not struggling while hustling, you’re not hustling right. You need to face those struggles as they can deter you, but it’s essential to keep pushing forward,” she stated. “As long as you are passionate about what you do, keep at it, and strive to make a positive impact in your community.”
