The Permanent Secretary for Education, Selina Kuruleca, announced that the IQ Active competition promotes academic engagement and nurtures critical thinking and problem-solving skills among students. She made this statement during the launch of the largest national secondary school general knowledge quiz competition in the country.

The 2024 competition will feature participation from fifty secondary schools, including five maritime institutions, with over 200 students across all divisions involved. Kuruleca praised Fiji TV for revitalizing the competition and emphasized the importance of teamwork and effective communication among participants.

“This competition should encourage and nurture critical thinking. Instead of only thinking about a problem in one way, you need to be challenged to think critically and creatively, enhancing your problem-solving skills and intellectual capabilities. Read up and study as you normally would, and then think creatively and critically on the best possible solutions,” she stated.

Fiji Television’s Acting CEO, Felix Chaudhary, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting Fiji’s education sector, highlighting their efforts in developing literacy and numeracy and their dedication to continuing these initiatives in the future.

The 2024 IQ Active competition is set to debut on October 7th on Fiji One.
