Local boxer Ubayd Haider is set to showcase his skills this Saturday as he faces China’s Runqi Zhao for the IBO Asia Pacific Super weight title at the South Pacific Boxing Promotion (SPBP) event taking place at Prince Charles Park in Nadi. Haider expressed eagerness for the match, emphasizing the intensity of his preparation.

“I have trained really hard for this fight, as if I will be fighting a world champion tomorrow. I am very positive and 100 percent sure that this belt will remain in Fiji,” said Haider during an interview.

He acknowledged the motivation stemming from personal differences with his opponent’s coach and remarks made on social media. Haider is eager to gauge Zhao’s abilities.

“Expect the best version of me come fight night. I haven’t felt this nervous before a match in a long time. However, as the fight approaches and I face my opponent, those nerves will fade, and all I’ll focus on is delivering my best performance,” he stated.

Promoter Freddy Chand highlighted the significance of this title fight for Haider, noting it as a major opportunity for the Fiji audience to witness him compete on home soil. He mentioned that there would be three international IBO titles and one local title on the line during the event, which will feature a total of ten bouts, all sanctioned by the Boxing Commission of Fiji (BCF).

Chand also extended thanks to the chairman of the commission and announced that sports icon Sonny Bill Williams will serve as the chief guest for the event.
