Local boxer Ubayd Haider is eager to showcase his skills when he faces China’s Runqi Zhao for the IBO Asia Pacific Superweight title this Saturday at Prince Charles Park in Nadi, during the South Pacific Boxing Promotion (SPBP) event. In a recent interview, Haider expressed confidence in his preparation for the fight.

“I have trained very hard for this fight, as if I was going to compete against a world champion tomorrow. I am very positive and 100 percent sure this belt will remain in Fiji,” he stated. Haider noted that he is highly motivated due to personal conflicts with his opponent’s coach and provocative comments made by Zhao on social media.

He emphasized that fans will see his best performance during the match. “I have never felt this nervous before a fight in a long time, but as the fight approaches and we stand face to face, those nerves will fade and my focus will solely be on my strategy,” Haider said.

Promoter Freddy Chand remarked that the bout is a significant opportunity for Haider. “It’s a great chance for the Fijian public to see Ubayd perform on home turf,” he said. The event will feature three international IBO titles and one local title, with a total of 10 sanctioned bouts approved by the Boxing Commission of Fiji (BCF).

Chand also thanked the chairman and announced that sports icon Sonny Bill Williams will be the chief guest at the event.
