Fiji’s tourism sector is poised to reach $4 billion by 2027, expecting to welcome over one million visitors annually. This projection was announced by Brent Hill, the CEO of Tourism Fiji, during the Fiji-Australia and Australia-Fiji Business Councils Joint Forum held in Suva last week.
Hill emphasized the billion-dollar growth opportunity for tourism, estimating that the current industry value of approximately $3.2 billion can increase by about $925 million by the end of 2027. He urged the government to continue investing in tourism, highlighting that significant infrastructure projects are being initiated to support this growth.
When Hill moved to Fiji three and a half years ago, the number of Australian visitors was increasing by just one percent annually over a decade. However, this trend changed dramatically, with 367,000 Australians visiting Fiji for holidays in 2019. This figure rose to 434,000 last year, and it is anticipated to reach around 450,000 this year, marking a 22 percent increase since 2019.
Tourism Fiji projects that visitor numbers will surpass one million by 2027, bolstered by Fiji Airways’ non-stop flights to Dallas, which are expected to bring in about 50,000 visitors from the United States, Europe, and South America. Additionally, Fiji Airways plans to expand its services to four new airports in Australia, further enhancing potential growth in the tourism sector.
