Tourism made a significant contribution of $3.22 billion to Fiji’s economy last year, as revealed in the 2023 International Visitor Survey (IVS) released recently. This figure marks a 46 percent increase compared to 2022, as stated by Tourism Fiji.
The increase underscores the rising demand for Fiji as a travel destination and reflects the strategic initiatives undertaken by Tourism Fiji to maintain the country’s competitiveness in the global market. The total number of visitor arrivals reached 929,740, surpassing the figures from 2022, achieving this milestone a year ahead of expectations.
As the government’s tourism marketing agency, Tourism Fiji plans to build on the achievements of 2023 while addressing ongoing challenges. Although shorter stays are leading to higher daily spending, there is a goal to find methods to extend visitor stays and promote repeat tourism.
The IVS data also points out the necessity for improved accessibility, particularly for travelers with disabilities, and emphasizes the promotion of Fiji’s sustainability efforts. With a commitment to authentically showcasing its culture, encouraging inclusivity, promoting responsible tourism, and providing personalized experiences, Tourism Fiji is dedicated to ensuring that Fiji remains a top destination for travelers seeking adventure, relaxation, and cultural engagement while also supporting local communities and businesses.
