Fiji’s Tourism Boom: $200M Investment Set to Transform Vanua Levu!

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism Viliame Gavoka has highlighted the Government’s dedication to the development of Vanua Levu, acknowledging its significant potential and distinct appeal. During the official launch of the Damodar City Labasa Hotel Brand, Gavoka announced that the Government, with financial backing from the World Bank, is committing $200 million to the Northern region through the Vanua Levu Tourism Development Programme.

Out of this investment, $61.5 million will specifically address barriers hindering growth, such as transportation, infrastructure, and essential services, alongside the enhancement of private sector engagement. He emphasized that the Government will persist in backing initiatives that align with broader objectives, ensuring that the resulting growth is sustainable, inclusive, and advantageous for all communities.

Gavoka pointed out that tourism is a critical pillar for Fiji’s economy, particularly within the services sector. He emphasized the necessity for significant investment to improve the current three percent contribution to tourism growth.
