Fiji’s Toughest Race: Yeshnil Karan Shines in Namosi Challenge

Fiji’s prodigious long-distance runner, Yeshnil Karan, and his team secured second place in the Namosi Challenge, dubbed “Fiji’s Toughest Race,” which took place in the Namosi highlands on Saturday.

Karan, leading his team in the 10km team race, excelled individually by finishing first for his group. However, despite his strong performance, the overall team placement was second due to delays experienced by his fellow team members.

This event marked Karan’s debut in the Namosi marathon, and he shared his enthusiasm about participating alongside his coach, Isireli Naikelekelevesi.

Although the team did not clinch the top spot, Karan found the experience thrilling and appreciated the distinct challenges posed by the mountainous terrain, even in the face of rainy weather.

“This is my first-ever Namosi marathon, and I took part in the 10km team race. It’s fantastic to see my coach, Isireli Naikelekelevesi, joining in this race as well,” Karan expressed. “I finished first for my team, but although we ultimately placed second, it was a fantastic race overall.”

He admired the exhilarating challenge presented by the hills and mountains, which created a unique atmosphere while running, and noted the captivating views despite the rain.

Karan acknowledged the tough competition, highlighting the difficulty of the hilly course, yet took pride in finishing strong for his team. He expressed his gratitude towards the event organizers, the Suva Marathon, and their sponsors for their support.

Furthermore, he extended thanks to his coach and family for their encouragement. Taking a break from his regular training, Karan viewed the Namosi Challenge as a chance to challenge himself and enjoy the journey.

He appreciated the event’s turnout and the opportunity to immerse himself in the breathtaking scenery of the highlands while pushing his limits.
