The Fiji national team celebrated a hard-fought victory, securing a 6-5 win against the Solomon Islands in a penalty shootout during the OFC Beach Soccer Nations Cup held in Honiara. Despite earlier challenges that resulted in substantial losses to Papua New Guinea and Tahiti, Fiji demonstrated resilience in this pivotal match.
The game began with the Solomon Islands taking an early lead, but Rewa midfielder Tevita Waranivalu provided a much-needed spark for Fiji, scoring an equalizer in the second half. Both teams displayed intense competition, with Waranivalu scoring once more to end regular time in a 2-2 tie.
In the penalty shootout, Waranivalu spearheaded the effort by successfully converting Fiji’s first penalty kick, followed by successful attempts from Adriu Nabose, Steven Dean, and Frances Catarongo, sealing the victory for Fiji.
