Fiji’s Thomas Dunn set for A-League trials with Sydney FC

Digicel Fiji Bula Boys and Navua striker Thomas Dunn is set to leave Fiji this Sunday to attend trials with the A-League’s Sydney FC.

If successful, the 21-year-old Dunn will become the second Fijian international, following Roy Krishna, to secure a contract in the A-League.

Team manager Kartik Reddy expressed excitement over this opportunity for Dunn, as he will get the chance to showcase his talents on a bigger stage and potentially earn a spot with the club. “He will be attending training sessions and playing in friendly matches during his stay with the club from July 8 to 19,” said Reddy.

Reddy lauded Dunn’s progress and emergence as an exceptional football talent, serving as a beacon of hope for aspiring athletes in Fiji. “His remarkable journey, both on and off the field, has captivated fans and earned him recognition for the trials with the Australian professional soccer club based in Sydney, New South Wales.”

The Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) will oversee Dunn’s trials in Sydney. “Fiji Football Association is assisting Dunn in terms of his welfare during his stay with the club. Fiji FA is thankful to its affiliate partners in Australia AUFFI and Fiji FA Liaison in Australia, Mr. Nick Sharma, for accepting to provide necessary support to the player while in Sydney for the trials.”

Dunn began representing Navua at the age of 15 while the team was in the Senior Division and has made significant progress since then. Apart from playing for the Senior National Men’s team, he has been a significant player for the Fiji U16, U17, U20, and U23 teams. Dunn also spent a year in Melbourne on a student visa, playing for several local clubs.
