Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica announced that he met with key representatives from Google’s Sydney office earlier this week to discuss the development of multiple subsea cables to Fiji. Speaking at the Fiji Tech Summit in Nadi, Kamikamica highlighted that Google is also in the process of building a tier-three data center infrastructure in the region.
He emphasized the significance of this investment, stating it would enhance connectivity across the Pacific and globally. Kamikamica called on the nation to fully leverage the potential of this development and mentioned the establishment of an ICT task force aimed at coordinating efforts to maximize the benefits from Google’s infrastructure in Fiji.
Kamikamica expressed optimism about the future, asserting that if managed effectively, the country would not merely be “surfing the web” but would instead be “riding a tidal wave of opportunity.”
