The Ministry of Education in Fiji has reintroduced interviews for Year 13 students who aim to pursue a career in teaching. This initiative is a joint effort with Teacher Training Institutions (TTIs), the Fiji Teacher’s Registration Authority (FTRA), the Higher Education Commission Fiji (HECF), and the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS). Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro underscored the significance of a thorough selection process to draw in candidates who are not only enthusiastic but also adequately qualified for the teaching profession. This move aligns with the 2024-2033 Denarau Declaration, which reinforces collaboration among stakeholders and the Ministry of Education. Eligible Year 13 students can apply for scholarships under the Merit-Based Higher Education (Level 7 Local Scheme) and the Minimum Cut-Off Mark Scheme, which support various Bachelor of Education programs, including specialized fields like Early Childhood Education, Counseling, and Industrial Arts. The deadline for submitting online applications to the TSLS is set for January 31, 2025. Successful candidates will receive notifications about their interview dates and venues through email and phone calls.
