Fiji weightlifter Taniela Rainibogi achieved a remarkable milestone by earning a senior gold medal at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship, which concluded at the Vodafone Arena in Suva. Demonstrating impressive strength and technique, Rainibogi lifted 167kg in the snatch category and set a new Commonwealth record with a 211kg lift in the clean and jerk for the 109kg weight class.
Inspired by the rise of talented young lifters, Rainibogi is optimistic about the future of weightlifting in Fiji. He intends to take a break to allow his shoulders to recover before returning to training. With an eye on the upcoming Commonwealth Games in December, Rainibogi is committed to maintaining his success on the international weightlifting platform and motivating the next generation of Fijian athletes.
