Hansel McCaig, a representative from the Fiji Swimming club, participated in the Fiji Swimming Age Group Nationals that kicked off yesterday at the Damodar City Aquatic Centre in Laucala Bay, Suva. Competing in 11 individual events and four relays, McCaig, who swims for the Tritons Swimming Club, reported a successful start to the competition, securing victories in four individual events and one relay.

McCaig noted the significant number of young swimmers at the event, which he sees as a positive sign for the future of the sport in Fiji. He expressed, “The younger kids are definitely coming up and it’s good to see that the future of swimming in Fiji is developing in the right direction.”

He welcomed the addition of new swimmers, emphasizing the importance of having young talent ready to step up as senior swimmers transition out. McCaig praised the performance of the younger members of his Tritons team, attributing their success to dedicated training.

“The kids in our club are doing very well, and it’s encouraging to see the talent that has been nurtured over the past months,” he mentioned. McCaig also highlighted that these developments motivate other swimmers to improve their own skills.

“It generates better stimulation in terms of developing, and when they improve, they push us to enhance our performance, creating better role models, so it’s a win-win for everyone involved,” he concluded.
