Hansel McCaig, representing the Tritons Swimming Club, participated in the Fiji Swimming Age Group Nationals that commenced yesterday at the Damodar City Aquatic Centre in Suva. Competing in 11 individual events and four relays, McCaig expressed satisfaction with his performance, securing victories in four individual events and one relay.

McCaig noted the impressive turnout of young swimmers at the event, which he believes signals a promising future for swimming in Fiji. He stated, “The younger kids are definitely coming up, and it’s good to see that the future of swimming in Fiji is developing in the right direction.”

He emphasized the importance of encouraging more young swimmers to join the sport, ensuring a steady transition as senior competitors eventually retire. “It’s also good for them to push themselves within their own age groups,” he said.

Observing the talent among the younger members of his Tritons team, McCaig attributed their success to dedicated training. “The kids in our club are doing very well, and it’s good to see some talent that has definitely been honed over the past months,” he noted.

Moreover, he highlighted how the development of younger swimmers creates a competitive environment that benefits all athletes. “It generates better stimulation in terms of developing, and when they get better, they push us to improve as well. It’s a win-win for both sides,” McCaig added.
