Fiji’s Sustainable Tourism Revolution: What You Need to Know!

A new initiative aimed at promoting sustainable tourism in Fiji, expected to benefit over 60,000 individuals, is set to be launched soon, according to World Bank President Ajay Banga. This program is a collaboration between the World Bank and the Fijian government and is part of discussions Mr. Banga is having with various stakeholders.

During a recent visit to Nuffield Health Clinic in Tamavua, Mr. Banga highlighted several key areas of focus between the World Bank and Fiji, including healthcare challenges, climate resilience, and the diversification of Fiji’s economy. He emphasized the importance of creating job opportunities for young people to encourage them to remain in the country while leveraging their enthusiasm to foster local growth.

To achieve these goals, Mr. Banga noted the necessity of a vibrant private sector and indicated plans to meet with private sector representatives to explore ways to enhance their contributions within the country. Among the new initiatives on the horizon is a sustainable tourism development scheme, which will involve collaboration with the government and the private sector, potentially assisting 60,000 individuals once fully operational. Mr. Banga mentioned that the launch of this scheme is expected either this month or next month.
