Fiji’s Sustainable Tourism Initiative: A Game Changer for 60,000 Lives

A new initiative aimed at promoting sustainable tourism is set to be launched in Fiji, with the potential to benefit over 60,000 individuals. This announcement was made by World Bank President Ajay Banga during his visit to the country, where he is engaging with various stakeholders.

Banga highlighted the World Bank’s eagerness to collaborate with Fiji on multiple issues, including health care challenges. He also pointed out the importance of addressing climate and resilience, as well as diversifying the Fijian economy to create job opportunities for young people. By harnessing the enthusiasm and passion of the younger population, the initiative aims to foster economic growth within the country.

The president emphasized that a vibrant private sector is essential for driving these changes. He plans to meet with private sector representatives to explore how the World Bank can assist them in partnership with the government.

Details regarding the tourism development scheme, which focuses on sustainable practices, are set to be unveiled soon, possibly within this month or next. Banga stated that once fully operational, the program could support around 60,000 people in Fiji.
