Fiji’s Sunishma Singh Wins Miss Continental Oceania 2024: A New Voice for Sustainability

Sunishma Singh was awarded the title of Miss Continental Oceania 2024 at the Miss Face of Beauty International Pageant held in Taiwan on Thursday. The 28-year-old entrepreneur and sustainability advocate expressed her gratitude for the chance to represent not only Fiji but the entire Oceania region.

“This title serves as a platform for me to advocate for climate resilience, sustainable tourism, and gender empowerment on a global scale,” Ms. Singh stated. She emphasized her commitment to the responsibility of this role, highlighting her intent to draw more attention to vital causes both within Fiji and the broader Pacific community.

Ms. Singh attributes her academic background, entrepreneurial ventures, and experience in sustainable tourism as contributing factors to her success in the pageant. “I have always believed in using every platform I have to elevate the causes I care about, and this pageant provided the ideal opportunity to showcase both Fiji’s beauty and my passion for sustainability.”

While competing in Taiwan, she missed the comforts of home, including home-cooked meals, but found inspiration among the diverse group of remarkable women she met, each contributing unique perspectives and strengths.

Ms. Singh holds a bachelor’s degree in Geospatial Information Systems and Geography and a postgraduate degree in Climate Change from the University of the South Pacific. In her professional capacity, she serves as the Sustainability Officer at Tourism Fiji and runs a successful venture, Singh’s Herbal Hair Oil, which is available in over 65 supermarkets across Fiji.

“My passion for promoting sustainable practices has led me to engage in advocacy roles that focus on environmental resilience and gender empowerment,” she noted. Throughout her journey, she has faced challenges, particularly in balancing her education with work. “I was determined to excel academically while building a career grounded in sustainability and entrepreneurship.”

The pageant also saw Jeanne Isabelle Bilasano from the Philippines crowned as Miss Face of Beauty International 2024.
