Sunishma Singh was awarded the title of Miss Continental Oceania 2024 at the Miss Face of Beauty International Pageant held in Taiwan on Thursday. The 28-year-old entrepreneur and sustainability advocate expressed her gratitude for the chance to represent not only Fiji but the entirety of the Oceania region.
“This title serves as a platform for me to further promote climate resilience, sustainable tourism, and gender empowerment on an international level,” Ms. Singh stated. “I understand the weight of this responsibility and aim to utilize this recognition to shed light on crucial issues within Fiji and the larger Pacific community.”
Ms. Singh attributes her academic qualifications, entrepreneurial experiences, and involvement in sustainable tourism as key factors in her achievement. “I have always believed in leveraging every opportunity to elevate the causes I am passionate about, and this pageant was an ideal occasion to highlight Fiji’s beauty along with my commitment to sustainability.”
Reflecting on her experience in Taiwan, she noted, “There wasn’t a moment I didn’t miss home and the comforts of a ‘home-cooked meal.’ Competing alongside incredible women from around the world was an enriching experience, as each brought unique perspectives and strengths.”
Holding a bachelor’s degree in Geospatial Information Systems and Geography, and a postgraduate degree in Climate Change from the University of the South Pacific, Ms. Singh also serves as the Sustainability Officer at Tourism Fiji. Additionally, she runs a successful business, Singh’s Herbal Hair Oil, which is distributed in more than 65 supermarkets throughout Fiji.
“I am passionate about advocating for sustainable practices, which has expanded into roles focusing on environmental resilience and gender empowerment,” she added.
Her journey has been marked by both challenges and achievements, particularly in balancing her studies with work commitments. “I was determined to excel academically while building a career focused on sustainability and entrepreneurship.”
During the pageant, Jeanne Isabelle Bilasano from the Philippines was named the Miss Face of Beauty International 2024.
