Sunishma Singh was awarded the title of Miss Continental Oceania 2024 at the Miss Face of Beauty International Pageant held in Taiwan on Thursday. The 28-year-old, who advocates for sustainability and is an entrepreneur, expressed her gratitude for the chance to represent Fiji and the broader Oceania region.
“This title provides a platform for me to advocate for climate resilience, sustainable tourism, and gender empowerment on a global level,” Ms. Singh remarked. She emphasized the significance of this responsibility and her eagerness to leverage this recognition to highlight crucial issues both in Fiji and throughout the Pacific community.
Ms. Singh credits her academic background, entrepreneurial experience, and commitment to sustainable tourism as key factors in her success. “I have always believed in utilizing every opportunity to uplift the causes I am passionate about, and this pageant has offered a perfect venue to showcase both Fiji’s beauty and my dedication to sustainability.”
While competing in Taiwan, she often missed home and the warmth of a home-cooked meal. She noted being surrounded by remarkable women from around the globe, each contributing unique perspectives and strengths.
Ms. Singh holds a bachelor’s degree in Geospatial Information Systems and Geography, as well as a postgraduate degree in Climate Change from the University of the South Pacific. In addition to her role as the Sustainability Officer at Tourism Fiji, she operates a thriving business, Singh’s Herbal Hair Oil, which is available in more than 65 supermarkets across the country.
“My passion for promoting sustainable practices extends into my advocacy work in environmental resilience and gender empowerment,” she shared.
Her journey has not been without obstacles, as she faced challenges in balancing her studies with her work commitments. “I was determined to excel academically while additionally pursuing a career focused on sustainability and entrepreneurship.”
At the same pageant, Jeanne Isabelle Bilasano from the Philippines was crowned as Miss Face of Beauty International 2024.
